My Two Cents on Taking time off

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

Hey there my beauties! Happy Sunday. I wanted to take a week off this week, but instead, I decided that I'm going to give you a short post. (Not a me kind of short, like an actually short). So today I'm giving you my two cents on Taking Time Off...

Ok, if you're a writer–which I'm assuming most of you are–most of you have heard the adages about writing every day. How it's important to keep up your craft, write every day and keep at it, even if it sucks. Well, let me say, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY disagree.

While I'm the first to admit I don't know much, and I especially don't know anything about you and your personality, I am also a human being so in that way, we are the same (I think, unless you're a dog, or a robot, then...😕)

But anyway, humans NEED BREAKS. From all things, not just writing. But it's important that when you're writing (especially if writing isn't your main job or focus) you allow yourself the freedom to take a break. Give yourself grace if you're struggling and if you need to break self imposed deadlines, by all means DO IT. If writing is your main source of income/your main focus, it may be harder, but don't forget to work breaks into your schedule.

I've taken breaks from this blog before, but I promised myself to be more intentional with keeping them up every week. While I did give myself permission not to make this post, an idea came to me so I decided to run with it!

But recently I've been struggling. My personal life has been hard, and my mind is not in the best place to produce quality work. So I've given myself permission to not make as many social media posts, not post in this blog, and step back from editing my WIPs (works in progress). I know if I do, when I come back the work is going to be much better, because I will have more energy to devote it. Remember, writing is an incredibly emotional form of expression (or at least it should be). So if your head isn't in the right place, it will show in your writing. Take a deep breath and come back when you're feeling refreshed.

So that's it folks! That's my two cents on taking a break. If you need one, take it and don't you dare give yourself a hard time about it! It's not selfish to need time for yourself.

(And I'm going to leave this here just so you don't forget how my weird mind works 😉)👇👇👇

Thanks for reading and have a great week!

XOXO
